A Temporary Child Care Provider /
Temporary Nanny

I generally charge an hourly rate of $16.50 this includes the parent portion of Social Security and Medicare taxes. The rate will depend on your family’s needs. For Monday- Friday care I must have a minimum of 40 hours a week, no maximum.

I have a 24-hour rate of $250.00; this is a discounted rate of $10.41 an hour. The rate for newborn care generally between $18.00- $22.00 this also includes the parent portion of Social Security and Medicare taxes. Accompany a traveling child, escorting a child to Grandma’s house, may sometimes be negotiated for travel expenses only.

These are my standard rates but they are subject to change with the number of children/ages as well as the special needs of child or family.

Included in my rates:
Care in your home or location (vacation rental, hotel, grandma’s house etc…) **
Planning fun and educational activities
Children's laundry
Keeping children’s area neat
Cooking for the children, adults included too
Help with homework
Escorting children to their activities*
Grocery shopping*
Child related errands *
Personal errands* (as long as it doesn’t interfere with child care)
Please let me know if your family requires anything else; I am open for discussion.

*You may provide the car or I can provide my car, in this case I expect the current federal travelers’ mileage reimbursement rate of 44.5 cents/mile (May 2006).
** You do not have to pay over-time rates (time and a half) to live-in nannies. Families with a live out nanny are required to pay time and a half after 40 hours.

I ask that prior to travel:
We will negotiate a contract based on your specific needs and situation; this contract must be returned before I travel.
You will pay a non-refundable deposit to reserve your block of time.

Your time is not on hold until I receive both this deposit and contract.

Deposits include:

Hold Time: To hold a block of time I require a minimum of $1320.00 for time over 3 weeks. This is figured by the hourly rate *40 hours = $660.00 *2= $1320.00.
If hold block is less then three weeks it will be 1/3 the number of days * #hours * hourly rate: 15 day assignment is 10 hours a day * $15 and hour * 5 days= $750.00.

Mileage: If you are located close enough for me to drive, I expect the federal travelers’ mileage reimbursement rate of 44.5 cents/mile (May 2006). I will include approximate one way mileage, plus tolls, to your location in the deposit. The return mileage/tolls charges are added to the last invoice.

Material Fee: I charge a material fee for each child over the age of two years. This is for the fun and educational activities I bring with me. This gives the child something to look forward to, and is especially handy when I do 24-hour care where the parents are leaving. It keeps the child’s mind off the fact that Mom and Dad are away. This fee is at least $5 a child, and depends on the length of the position and the age of your child.

TAXES:

The United States government requires all household employers pay half of Social Security and Medicare taxes on your household employee making more than $1500 a year. This does include me. Because I work in your house, use your supplies, do what you want and how you want it done I am not an independent contractor.

To legally get around this, I charge you a bit more for child care to cover these taxes, and ask that parents give me a 1099-misc (I will provide this form). This is an IRS form for miscellaneous income which legally removes the tax requirement from your responsibility This means that you are not responsible to pay half of my Social Security, Medicare taxes, and Federal and State unemployment insurance taxes. You will only be responsible for the invoice I provide. I pay all taxes and self –employment tax (employer and employee Social Security and Medicare) quarterly. You will get an invoice from me weekly, or at the end of service if less than 3 weeks.

If you are not comfortable with 1099-misc and would rather do it the traditional way this is fine with me. You may pay half of Social Security and Medicare, and federal and state unemployment insurance taxes. This is usually about 10% of the gross wages and will require you to provide me a W-2 at the end of the year. Just inform me when we first speak that you would prefer to go this route.
