“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never.  A mother is something absolutely  new.”

Congratulations on your new, or soon to be here, newborn. For a first-time mother the experience of anticipating the arrival of a baby is an amazing time. Whether this baby is born to you or you are a new adoptive mom, the anticipation of a new life is a wonderful time. A new baby brings untold joys and many changes in the life of a mother. If you are a first-time mother or if this is your fifth baby, change is a fact of everyone’s life: physical changes and emotional changes for the mom and the rest of the family as they prepare for this new family member.

”When the first baby laughed for the first time, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies”                                      James Matthew Barrie

One way to aid in your planning and preparations for your new little one is to engage a Newborn Care Specialist to help during those first busy and sometimes stressful weeks at home. A Newborn Care Specialists is a person who helps recovering mothers just after childbirth. She will typically come into your home for a few weeks to a few months to help you get the much needed rest that will help you recover after childbirth. She will help with feeding (positioning), nighttime feedings (including getting up to help the mother if she is breastfeeding), cooking, laundry, and teaching bathing and other baby hygiene skills. She will create a nurturing, stimulating environment for baby during his waking hours. This will allow the parents the freedom to get to know and understand this new little life and become comfortable with their new responsibilities.

This field has been traditionally referred to as a “baby nurse” a Newborn Care Specialist is not a Registered Nurse.

“A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth  living.”  Anonymous
